Mediation
Mediation is an alternative to court. Jackie Young is a qualified mediator and accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. She will meet with you and your partner and help you to consider all options and to work out mutually acceptable arrangements. Discussions at mediation are confidential and any agreement will be checked by your solicitors and put into the form of a binding agreement. It is usually cheaper than court, and quicker, and lets you both decide what will happen.
You can use mediation at any time – if you have both already been using a solicitor, it is not too late. You can use mediation from the beginning, or if one or both of you already have a solicitor, or if you want to try something different along the way, as an alternative to court for example. Sometimes your solicitor or the court will suggest mediation as an alternative. It means that you can both agree the outcome rather than having a court impose it upon you.
If you have a solicitor, you can apply for legal aid for mediation.
